The walk, according to a statement by HWPL, is a “powerful platform to address community violence, promote revitalization, and create a community of peace, while also echoing the global and local call for an end to conflicts that claim innocent lives.”

HWPL’s Myrian Craft said this will be the third year the 1.7 mile-long walk has been in Atlanta. Similar events are held each year in 177 countries around the world.

“The main purpose of the walk is to encourage everyone to walk in a way that is peaceful and conciliatory,” Craft said. “We are also focusing on youth affected by gun violence.”

After the walk, there will be speakers and performances, highlighted by an appearance by former American Idol contestant who goes by the moniker “Ten,” Craft said.
