There are a few more nice days ahead but rain is coming, NWS says

It’s okay if you missed the chance to get outside and enjoy the almost perfect weather through the weekend because the Boston region is set to see a few more days of near-to-ideal conditions, according to the National Weather Service, but it won’t last all week.

The start of the week will be “kind of more of the same of what we had this weekend,” Rob Megnia, a meteorologist with NWS Boston, told the Herald.

“More of that late-spring, early summer weather,” Megnia said on Sunday.

Monday will see mostly clear skies by afternoon and high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, with the sea breeze keeping Boston and low-lying coastal regions closer to the lower 70s, Megnia said.

Temperatures could drop into the middle 50s overnight, according to the weather service, with clouds giving way to clear skies by morning.

Sunny weather Tuesday will not necessarily translate into a warmer day, according to the meteorologist, with slightly cooler temperatures expected regionally and a high of 73 called for Boston.

“We’ll see that warm trend continue through Wednesday, though Tuesday looks a little bit on the cooler side,” Megnia said. “There is no rain in the forecast through Wednesday.”

It will again be cooler Tuesday evening, with temps in the upper 50s expected overnight.

Temperatures turn around by Wednesday and could hit 80 degrees regionally by the afternoon under mostly sunny skies, according to the weather service, though Boston and the sea coast could be slightly cooler.

“There will be kind of that sea breeze that keeps the coastal areas in and around Boston cooler, possibly as cool as the upper 60s or very low 70s,” Megnia said.

Overnight lows heading into Thursday should stay in the 60s with mostly clear skies, Megnia said.

As of now the forecast for Thursday is a “little bit more unsettled” than the rest of the week, according to the meteorologist, and the day could be “a total washout” depending on where and whether the rain decides to fall.

“It might rain all day. As for how much, that’s up in the air, but as of right now we’re forecasting widespread rain totaling a quarter of an inch to half an inch,” Megnia said. “The details on that weather system are still being ironed out.”

The weather service is calling for a 73 degree high on Thursday, with a 70% chance of precipitation.

More rain is possible through the weekend, according to the NWS, with high temperatures in the middle 70s and a 30% chance of rain currently forecast Friday through Sunday.
