Tokyo (Japan), : Shigeru Ishiba was formally voted in by parliament as the new Japanese Prime Minister on October 01. Ishiba emerged victorious in one of the closest ever leadership races for the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
The newly-crowned prime minister succeeded Fumio Kishida whose tenure came to end on Tuesday. During parliament voting, a left-wing female lawmaker held up a placard to protest the dissolution of the lower house.
The progressive party leader war later taken away by security guards due to violation of parliamentary norms.
Ishiba, the 67-year-old former defense minister, seen as ‘outsider’ in his party who failed at four previous leadership bids. However, answering his critics, he already begun picking party officials who would contest upcoming general election with him.
