Russia: Both pilots died after military aircraft crashes into two-storey building in Irkutsk

Both pilots died after a Su-30 military aircraft crashed in residential sector in Irkutsk on Sunday, Igor Kobzev, governor of the Irkutsk region, reported.

“Both pilots died. None of the locals were injured. The clarified address of the crash site is Przhevalsky Street, 32. This is a residential building of 100 square meters for two families,” – said the governor.

Kobzev added that after the crash 150 houses in the city were disconnected from the electrical power source.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ press service, the fighter plane fell on a two-storey residential house during the test flight, causing fire at the area of 200 square metres. Open flames have reportedly already been extinguished.

Russian Investigation Committee initiated a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code (violation of safety rules of aircraft movement and operation). According to the committee, the test flight was carried out without a combat kit.

At present moment investigators and forensic specialists are working at the crash scene.
