SabaRaba’s
2175 American Way, Chamblee

The owner of Fuego Mundo in Sandy Springs just opened falafel and shawarma restaurant SabaRaba’s at the Lumen complex on American Way.

Udi Hershkovitz launched SabaRaba’s out of a converted shipping container two years ago in the parking lot of Parkside Shopping Center in Sandy Springs. SabaRaba’s walk-up window still operates at Parkside.

As in Sandy Springs, the Chamblee restaurant features a menu of falafel and shawarma plates and pitas, as well as kebabs, salads, baklava, and beer, wine, and frozen drinks.

Hershkovitz, along with his cousin, Chef Tomer Hauptman, styled the mostly street food menu at SabaRaba’s after dishes he grew up eating in Tel Aviv. He previously operated Ponce City Market food stall Marrakesh, which closed in 2022.

Open daily, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Chamblee. Free parking for SabaRaba’s customers.

Azucar Cuban Cuisine
2142 Johnson Ferry Road, Brookhaven

Alvaro Carta transformed his Cuban food truck into a Brookhaven restaurant earlier this month. Azucar Cuban Cuisine took over the former Righteous Room space beside Moon Indian Cuisine on Johnson Ferry Road.

Expect dishes like Havana chicken cubanos, loaded tostones with slow-roasted pork, empanadas, ropa vieja sandwiches and plates, and desserts like churros and tres leches. The menu offers an entire section dedicated to Cuban coffee drinks.

In addition to a shady patio, a large, live tree lit with twinkling lights towers over the dining room inside, adding a bit of drama to the design. The tree was also a prominent design feature at Righteous Room, with the bar built around the trunk.

Azucar Cuban Cuisine joins a small strip of independent restaurants along Johnson Ferry, including Moon Indian, Hovan Mediterranean Gourmet, Tacos Al Pastor, and Sushi Yoshino.

Open daily, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
