The Barber is back

Utah Opera describes Mozart’s 1786 comic opera “The Marriage of Figaro” as a sequel to “The Barber of Seville” — not Rossini’s famous opera, which debuted 30 years later, but the 1775 French novel on which it was based. Here, the barber, Figaro, is ready to marry his sweetheart, Susanna, but a nefarious Count aims to break them up. The opera, sung in Italian with English subtitles, is scheduled to be staged at Utah Opera, starting Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. — and repeated Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m. — at Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. Tickets available at UtahOpera.org.

The Globetrotters are back

It will be a pleasant change from the usual, to go to Delta Center and know that the basketball team you’re rooting for is definitely going to win. (Unless you’re a fan of the Washington Generals.) The Harlem Globetrotters come to the DC, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City, on Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m. The team has been performing its family-friendly brand of trick shots, gags and comic antics for 98 years. Tickets are available at deltacenter.com.

The never-ending Journey

The rock band Journey seems incapable of not touring, 51 years after they formed in the Bay Area. Journey is back in Utah (they headlined Stadium of Fire in Provo last July), on the “Freedom” tour, at the Maverik Center, 3200 S. Decker Lake Dr., West Valley City, Friday at 7:30 p.m. Another legendary band, Toto, is opening the show. Tickets are available at MaverikCenter.com.
