Germany announced swift support for Turkey following a deadly earthquake that has struck the country earlier in the day, as the government offered its condolences to the victims in Berlin on Monday.
Speaking during the Federal Pess Conference, government spokesperson Wolfgang Buchner stated “Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, we wish the injured a speedy recovery. The task now is to provide help quickly,“ adding “The Federal Government will contribute to this together with our partners.“
According to Interior Ministry spokesperson Maximilian Kall, The Technical Relief Organisation (THW) will „provide camps with emergency shelters and water treatment units” for the victims.
Commenting on the planned Leopard tank deliveries to Ukraine, Buchner said the German commitment stands. “The Federal Government assumes that the promised Leopard deliveries to Ukraine will be implemented quickly”, said Buchner.
Concluding his statement Buchner voiced the government’s concerns over “a Chinese balloon over US airspace and its downing“, while expressing hope that the incident will not lead to a deterioration of US-Chinese relations.
