Charlestown man charged with brass knuckle beating outside Seaport bar

A Charlestown man has been caught and charged in connection with severely fracturing another man’s face outside Lucky’s Lounge in the Seaport last May, DA Kevin Hayden said in a release Sunday.

“What was supposed to be a night of fun and socializing with friends turned into a night of pain and tragedy for this victim, all due to an extremely violent reaction to a misunderstanding,” Hayden said.

The suspect, Weston Dorn, 31, was arraigned Friday in South Boston Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — referring for brass knuckles — in connection with the incident last spring, the release stated. Dorn was released by the judge and ordered to stay away from the victim and locations of the incident.

In the afternoon of May 19, police responded to a local hospital where a man was recovering from surgery treating multiple facial fractures, the release said.

The man reportedly told police he was at a bar in the Omni Hotel with a friend on May 17 and had purchased a drink for a woman sitting at the end of the bar.

The pair said they were confronted about the drink by a blonde man around 6 feet tall with glasses, the release recounted. The victim reportedly said they apologized to the man — later identified as Dorn — for the misunderstanding, telling him they didn’t know the woman was there with him, and bought him a drink in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

The victim reported he then left the hotel and headed to Lucky’s Lounge. There, Dorn approached him again and grabbed his shoulder, the victim said. Security jumped in and asked Dorn to leave, the release said.

Later that night, the victim said, he was leaning on a light pole outside and looking down at his phone when someone hit the left side of his face.

He fell, hitting his head on the pole, and lost consciousness, he reportedly said.

When he opened his eyes again, he saw Dorn running off into a gray SUV.

Left bleeding heavily from his eye, nose and mouth, the victim said his friend brought him to the hospital where he underwent surgery to treat his injuries.

Police obtained a video corroborating the victim’s account of the attack and a Lucky’s Lounge credit card receipt under his name from the night, the release said. In the video, the victim leans against a pole in front of the bar as Dorn comes out the side, manipulates an object on his knuckles and cold-cocks the man, according to the DA’s office.

The DA noted the “strong work of investigators and the presence of video surveillance led to Dorn being identified and charged” in the release.

Dorn will return to court on Nov. 13.
