Car crash on I-285 West results in one fatality

One person died and another was injured in an early morning two-vehicle car crash on I-285 West near Ashford Dunwoody Road on Sept. 1.

A report released by the Dunwoody Police Department said officers were called to the scene shortly before 4 a.m. and found a driver and passenger trapped in their car, a white Scion.

The collision occurred around the entrance to Georgia 400 as two vehicles were attempting to merge.

“The Scion began changing lanes towards the GA 400 exit ramp,” the report said. “At the same time, the red F-250 was entering I-285 westbound from Ashford Dunwoody Rd. The F-250 and Scion collided in a motor vehicle crash at the bottom of the entrance ramp.”

The Scion’s driver and passenger were extracted by DeKalb Fire personnel, and the passenger of that vehicle, a 33-year-old female,  was pronounced dead on the scene, the report said. The Scion driver was transported to North Fulton Hospital and is listed in stable condition. The driver of the F-250 did not suffer life-threatening injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

The DeKalb Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and took custody of the victim. Police say her identity will be released after her family has been notified.
